1960 -SAGA of AVERY "New House"
The 1960 Lion Tattler and Ken Love '62 set the Stage and Add to the Tale
Chuck Sprowl ’62 kept the Lion Tattler that captures one part of the New House fever that came to a head in 1960 when Brother Avery Brundage (initiated in 1907) was honored by the University and Illinois Beta in the fall of that year. The alumni hoped this wealthy brother who headed the Olympics for years would donate the money to make the $400,000.00 project happen it happen. Obviously he didn’t come through.
Read Ken Love’s (’62) letter he sent to me about the beloved building that still is standing tall. Maybe it is just as well the it still stands.
